September 24, 2007

We thought it was high time for another cheeky update. (Cheeky is another convenient British word - it means you are flippant, have too much lip, or are a bit of a smart arse. You can imagine it comes in handy around this office).

lucky seven

We are thrilled to introduce Louise as the newest cheeky member of the method team. As you can see from the photo below, she inherited one of Philthy’s old file cabinets, and discovered a lone black sock when she organized her files (I swear I’m not making this up).

Louise is joining us as influencer marketing guru (aka ripple maker). Louise brings a great deal of relevant experience. However, one of her most staggering achievements has been to rear three kids with cloth, not disposable, nappies. Yipe.

hands across Britain

Our hand wash bottles rolled out to 500 or so Boots stores last week. Here is the happy trio posing for the camera in the Boots down the street from our office.

mini me

We received first live samples of our new cheeky Mini Me counter sprays last week. We’ve posted on this before, but here’s a live photo. You’ll note that it sports a neck dangler with a non-toxic story, and a new label with prominent “non-toxic” as the benefit and the nutrition bar pulled to the front panel. As Dr. Evil would say, “Mini-me, you complete me.”

talking clean

We’re starting to divvy up consumer email response across our team in London so that we are closer to it. In the spirit of last week’s Jethro Tull story, here are a couple UK consumer gems from the weekend.

“I shall continue to use you as an example in my tip of the week to residents on my work website and I hope that I can influence just a few people to make a change. Congratulations to you all on a great product with a great message”

“I love your products! I discovered your products after buying the Method Hand Wash in Sweet Water at my local branch of Tesco (which is the only Method product they stock) - because I loved your hand wash so much I wondered if there were any other products in your range and went on the website and discovered Method. I totally agree with the ethics of your products and we as a family are trying to use organic products and recycle as must as we possibly can.”

preaching the gospel

Stern

This week, we went to an interesting media event called “Shades of Green” (put on by TBWA\London). The event kicked off with none other than Sir Nicholas Stern – one of the world’s foremost thinkers in climate change and author of the influential Stern Report, which was the first to frame global warming in economic terms that world leaders couldn’t ignore (he’s literally meeting with Vladimir Putin next week). His message was that we shouldn’t expect consumers to become “monastic”, but that it’s up to businesses to create greener solutions that don’t involve consumer sacrifice.

As part of the event, we were mentioned as a case study in this accompanying blog (pretty interesting read).

Handwash_pcr

We posted a while back about the debut of Go Naked in the UK in the first 100% recycled cleaning bottle.

We decided to follow that up with the first 100% recycled hand wash bottle. Samples of the printed bottles arrived in our offices this morning (in Nicole’s hand), and we received a few other color samples as well. Here’s Phil showing how he looks at the world through bright-green colored glasses.

hide and go seek

Edinburgh

The next time you're looking for the closest place to buy method near Edinburgh, you can now discover that there is a John Lewis, a Tesco, and Sainsbury all within 5 miles. One of our challenges here is that we’re distributed in pockets across the UK, so that it’s hard for people to reliably find us once they’ve heard the method story. So, we’re glad that we now have a handy method finder.

Next priority: a Scottish Haggis finder (Note: Scottish Haggis is a delightful dish made of sheep’s heart, liver, and lungs traditionally boiled in the animal’s stomach for an hour. Yum)

visit from Meredith

Meredith_team

We had a fun visit with our very own mathmagician a couple weeks ago, which we celebrated at a nearby pub. Here’s a rare shot of the whole team in one place. BTW, we’ve learned it’s always a good idea to put David in a helmet when taking him to a pub. Safety first.

Dave_paris

David had enough of waiting to bring method to the rest of Europe, so he took to his bike and pedaled there. Literally. David rode from London to Paris over a long weekend for a bit of fun and charity for a children’s hospital. Here he is beneath the Tour Eiffel. Next time, we’re going to attach an m-spot as a trailer. All with a zero carbon footprint.
